Fishers' November Runs Through the Event Center Until the Tree Lights Up Downtown

October 29, 2026

A college conference that has led Division I volleyball attendance every season since 2007 has never decided its champion with a tournament. It will this month, and it will do it in Fishers. The Big Ten's first-ever volleyball tournament runs Nov. 20 through Nov. 25 at Fishers Event Center, 11000 Stockdale Street. The championship match is the night before Thanksgiving.

That week is the clearest sign of how November works in Fishers this year. Until the day after Thanksgiving, most of the city's dated events happen around the arena and The Union at Fishers District at 116th Street and I-69. Then on Friday, Nov. 27, the holiday season starts at the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater downtown, and the arena has a concert booked that same night. Here is the month in the order you'll live it.

The two weekends before the tournament

After the Nov. 1 and Nov. 3 games, the Indy Fuel have four more home games before the volleyball teams arrive. All four are on weekends, and they set the rhythm for the first half of the month.

Date At Fishers Event Center Start
Sat., Nov. 7 Indy Fuel vs. Kalamazoo Wings 7 p.m.
Sun., Nov. 8 Indy Fuel vs. Cincinnati Cyclones 4 p.m.
Thu., Nov. 12 MercyMe, Jeremy Camp, Tim Timmons, Sam Wesley 7 p.m.
Sat., Nov. 14 Indy Fuel vs. Wheeling Nailers 7 p.m.
Sun., Nov. 15 Indy Fuel vs. Toledo Walleye 4 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 14 is the easiest day of the month to fill. Fishers Parks' free STEM Day runs noon to 5 p.m. at Maker Playground, 8100 E. 106th Street, and it ends two hours before the Fuel game starts. A family could spend the afternoon on 106th Street and still get to the arena on time.

Sundays now have a standing option for the whole winter. Fishers Parks Open Gym is free, drop-in, and runs 1 to 5 p.m. every Sunday at Fishers Junior High School, 13257 Cumberland Road. Use Door #12. It started Nov. 1 and runs through March 28. On Nov. 8 and Nov. 15, gym time ends an hour after the 4 p.m. puck drop, so a household split between the two can plan around it.

Six days, fifteen teams, and an off day on Monday

Those weekends lead into a tournament the Big Ten has never held before. Commissioner Tony Petitti described it in the conference's April announcement:

"For the first time in its history, the Big Ten Conference will determine its volleyball champion with a postseason tournament featuring the best volleyball teams in the country."

The top 15 teams in the regular-season standings qualify, and it's single elimination. Seeds 10 through 15 play three opening-round matches. Seeds 5 through 9 skip the first round, and the top four seeds start in the quarterfinals. To make room, the conference cut its regular season from 20 matches to 17.

Here is how the week falls against a Fishers calendar, using the Big Ten's tournament FAQ:

  1. Friday, Nov. 20: first round, three matches
  2. Saturday, Nov. 21: second round, four matches
  3. Sunday, Nov. 22: quarterfinals
  4. Monday, Nov. 23: off day
  5. Tuesday, Nov. 24: semifinals
  6. Wednesday, Nov. 25: championship

The quietest day is a Monday, and the semifinals and final land on the two weeknights before Thanksgiving. If you have family arriving early for the holiday, the final could be part of their visit.

The arena already has a volleyball tenant. The Big Ten notes that Fishers Event Center is home to Major League Volleyball's Indy Ignite and seats 7,500. The conference says it has led Division I attendance in every season since 2007, and eight of the nine most-watched college volleyball matches ever have featured Big Ten teams. Matched against 7,500 seats, those numbers explain the ticket setup. According to the FAQ, all-session passes went on sale first, and single-session tickets were to be released later through a notification sign-up. If you only want one night, check the Big Ten page for current availability before you plan around it.

Where the pregame and postgame happen

On event nights, The Union at Fishers District is the closest place to eat. Its newest restaurant is Flower Child, the fast-casual chain, which set Oct. 27 as its opening date at 9344 Union Place Dr. Current in Fishers reported that it's the brand's 47th location and its second in Indiana. The 3,500-square-foot space has an open kitchen and covered outdoor seating, and the menu includes the Mother Earth Bowl, an Avocado Caesar Salad and gluten-free mac and cheese. You can also order curbside pickup through the Flower Child app, which is handy for a 7 p.m. puck drop.

The Union's retail and dining directory lists these tenants:

  • Piedra Mexican Steakhouse
  • Racha Thai
  • Niku Sushi. Kitchen. Bar
  • Everbowl
  • Kitchen Social
  • The Oakmont
  • Tous les Jours

The directory doesn't say which of these are open, so call ahead before building a game night around one. Current in Fishers also reported in January that Cunningham Restaurant Group had signed a lease for a two-story building at The Union. The City of Fishers' summary of that announcement describes the plan as a 5,700-square-foot fine-dining restaurant upstairs over a 2,400-square-foot small-plates bar, with the concept still being finalized at the time. Those two floors together are more than twice the size of the new Flower Child.

Getting in and out on a 7,500-seat night

According to the venue's Know Before You Go page, the site has more than 2,000 parking spaces. LAZ manages them, with prepaid or event-day payment and license-plate recognition. The venue recommends Waze specifically because the app gets its event-day traffic plans and street closures.

The city has been studying this. In December 2025, Current in Fishers reported that Fishers approved a traffic study of about $98,700 covering the Event Center and nearby streets. At the time, the venue counted 141 events and 527,313 attendees since it opened in November 2024. That was the volume as of late 2025, before a six-day conference tournament was on the calendar. If you live or commute near 116th and I-69, the tournament week is a good time to use another route or leave a little earlier.

Nov. 27, when both ends of Fishers fill on the same night

The day after Thanksgiving, Fishers Parks holds Night Lights, the City of Fishers tree lighting and holiday kickoff. It runs 5 to 7 p.m. at the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater, 6 Municipal Drive, and the tree is lit promptly at 6:30 p.m. by Santa and Mayor Scott Fadness. The event is free with no registration. The Fishers Parks listing promises live music, fire pits, igloo seating, live ice carving, reindeer, Fishers AgriPark animals, food trucks, and holiday light displays through downtown.

At 8 p.m. that same Friday, Triumph plays Fishers Event Center on its Rock & Roll Machine Reloaded Tour. The next night, Saturday, Nov. 28, the arena hosts The 90s R&B Experience with Joe at 8 p.m. All month, the arena carried the city's calendar on its own. On Nov. 27, downtown and the District draw crowds at the same time for the first time this season. The tree lighting ends an hour before the concert starts, so the timing works if you have a ticket and want both.

After that, downtown takes over. Jingle Bell Junction at 10 Municipal Drive runs a nightly lineup the week of Dec. 8:

Date Event Time Cost
Tue., Dec. 8 Santa's Workshop with Maker Playground staff 4–8 p.m. Free
Wed., Dec. 9 DIY Gift Supplies + Karoling Karaoke 5–9 p.m. Free
Thu., Dec. 10 Reindeer Games: Kids Bingo + Holiday Movie Trivia with Hambones Trivia 5–10 p.m. Free
Fri., Dec. 11 Community Jazz Improv + Jazz Lounge with Brandon Meeks 6–10 p.m. Free
Sat., Dec. 12 Cookies With Characters 10 a.m.–2 p.m. $10 resident, $15 non-resident, registration required
Sat., Dec. 12 Winter Market + Mixology Class with Mixo Indy 6–10 p.m. Free entry; classes $40 resident, $60 non-resident

Cookies With Characters requires registration for every guest, adults included. Children 2 and under are free but still need to be registered. Mixology class seats at 6 and 8 p.m. also require registration. The market itself is free to walk through.
